MSI Users Conference 2013, i.e. S-PLUS Users Meeting in Japan 2013, 22 November 2013, Roppongi, Tokyo, Japan

Mathematical Systems Inc. Users Conference 2013 (MSI Users Conference 2013) was held by NTT DATA Mathematical Systems Inc. (Mathematical Systems) on 22 November 2013 at Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, Tokyo, Japan. Mathematical Systems is an exclusive distributor of S-PLUS (TIBCO Spotfire S+) in Japan. The conference was intended for users of S-PLUS to provide opportunities of sharing information and improving knowledge, as well as mutual communication, through some lectures and case studies.

Overall, the conference, as a users meeting of S-PLUS which is known as the commercial version of R, was great success as had not been seen in recent years because statistical computing and its applications with R are drawing attention to people by "big data and cloud computing boom" in Japan.

Mathematical Systems develops the S-PLUS Japanese version and its add-on modules, including Big Data Module, and sells them. The company also provides original data mining tools, such as Visual Mining Studio and Text Mining Studio, which received the Development Award of Software Prize from Japanese Society of Computational Statistics in 2013.

In this conference, lectures about big data were performed, such as the Keynote Speech "The Beginning and the End of Big Data" by Professor Masahiro Mizura (Hokkaido University, Japan), "Big Data Analysis in Genomic Sciences Using S-PLUS/R" by Professor Kazuo Ishii (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan) and "Integrate CRM Solution Using Big Data Analysis" by Ms. Yukiko Kan (ALBERT Inc.). And Dr. Soichi Noguchi, astronaut, performed the Special Lecture titled "Psychology in the Space Analyzed by Text Mining".
